Description: Tumor endothelial marker 7 (TEM7) was identified through serial analysis of gene expression on endothelial cells isolated from human normal and malignant colorectal tissues. Further experiments verified TEM7 was highly expressed in the endothelium of numerous other cancer types including breast, lung and brain tumors. At least four isoforms of TEM7 are known to exist; these include intracellular, secreted, and membrane-bound forms. A homologous protein, TEM7R (also known as PLXDC2), acts as a binding partner to TEM7 and is also abundantly expressed in the endothelium of malignant colorectal cancer but is absent or rare in normal colon mucosa. High expression of TEM7 is associated with metastasis and poor survival of patients with osteogenic sarcoma.

Description: TMEM192 is a widely expressed, four transmembrane protein that localizes to late endosomal/lysosomal membranes. This localization is mediated by two dileucine motifs present at the amino-terminus of TMEM192. A cysteine residue near the carboxy residue is responsible for disulfide bond formation in TMEM192 homodimers. Little is known about the function of this protein.

Description: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are evolutionarily conserved pattern-recognition molecules resembling the toll proteins that mediate antimicrobial responses in Drosophila. These proteins recognize different microbial products during infection and serve as an important link between the innate and adaptive immune responses. The TLRs act through adaptor molecules such as MyD88 and TIRAP to activate various kinases and transcription factors so the organism can respond to potential infection. TLR6 was first identified as a close homolog of TLR1, sharing 69% sequence identify. Like TLR1, TLR6 can form heterodimers with TLR2, and these TLR6:TLR2 dimers coordinate macrophage activation by Gram-positive bacteria and the yeast cell wall particle zymosan. Activation of these complexes not only initiates pro-inflammatory cascades, but also can lead to apoptotic responses.

Description: Recent studies have examined how overexpression of certain genes enhances the tropism of neural stem cells (NSCs) for gliomas. Overexpression of Transmembrane protein 18 (TMEM18) provides NSCs and neural precursors an increased migration capacity towards glioblastoma cells in vitro and in the rat brain, while functional inactivation of the gene resulted in an almost complete loss of migration activity, suggesting that TMEM18 could be a potential target in NSC-based glioma therapy. Other recent results suggest that among others, the TMEM18 loci is associated with higher than normal body mass index (BMI) and obesity, indicating there may be a CNS-related role in predisposition to obesity. Multiple isoforms of TMEM18 are known to exist.

Description: Transmembrane protein 106A (TMEM106A) is a single-pass transmembrane protein that is closely related to TMEM106B, a protein that is thought to be a novel risk factor for frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), a group of clinically, pathologically and genetically heterogeneous disorders associated with atrophy in the frontal lobe and temporal lobe of the brain. The actual roles of TMEM106A and TMEM106B are still undetermined; however, as TMEM106B is involved in FTLD, it is possible that TMEM106A may also be a risk factor for FTLD.

Description: Tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily members are defined by cysteine-rich domains in their extracellular regions that bind TNF-related ligands that share a common structural homology in their extracellular domain. TNFRSF14 was initially identified as the Herpesvirus entry mediator and upon binding to the herpes simplex virus (HSV) envelope glycoprotein D or either of its natural ligands LIGHT and lymphotoxin alpha (LT), activates the transcription factors NF-kB and AP-1. Activation of this signal transduction pathway in T cells stimulates T cell proliferation and cytokine production, leading to inflammation and enhanced CTL-mediated tumor immunity, suggesting that these proteins may be useful as potential targets for controlling cellular immune responses.

Description: Transmembrane protein 214 (TMEM214) is a 77kD membrane protein which is widely expressed at high level. The gene encoding this protein maps to chromosome 2, at 2p23.3 TMEM214 interacts with LSM1, an SM-like protein, forming a stable heteromer present in tri-snRNP particles, which are important for pre-mRNA splicing. The detailed function of TMEM214 is still unknown, but a recent study showed that TMEM214 may be used to explore the contribution of human host factors of some infectious diseases such as Dengue fever, West Nile fever and yellow fever. Multiple isoforms of TMEM214 are known to exist.

Description: TMEM38A and TMEM38B are two recently identified trimeric intracellular cation (TRIC) channel subtypes. TMEM38A is preferentially expressed in excitable tissues such as striated muscle and brain and localizes to the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) in muscle tissues. Mice deficient in both TMEM38A and TMEM38B suffer embryonic cardiac failure; the cardiac myocytes display severe dysfunction in SR Ca2+ handling, weakened Ca2+ release, and reduced K+ permeability indicating that the TRIC cation channels are likely to act as counter-ion channels that function in synchronization with Ca2+ release from intracellular stores. Other experiments have shown that TMEM38A and TMEM38B can act with junctophilin proteins to support efficient ryanodine receptor-mediated Ca2+ release in muscle cells.

The TLRs act through adaptor molecules to activate various kinases and transcription factors so the organism can respond to potential infection. These adaptor molecules include TOLLIP, MyD88, and TRIF. TOLLIP associates directly with TLR2 and TLR 4, acting as an inhibitor to TLR activation. This negative regulation of TLR signaling may serve to limit the production of proinflammatory mediators during infection and inflammation.

Description: Transferrin Antibody detects transferrin protein. Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe3+ ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. It is responsible for the transport of iron from sites of absorption and heme degradation to those of storage and utilization. Serum transferrin may also have a further role in stimulating cell proliferation. Anti-transferrin Antibody is ideal for investigators involved in Cell Signaling, Neuroscience and Signal Transduction research.

Description: VAMP7 is a member of the soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) family, localizing to late endosomes and lysosomes. VAMP7 is thought to mediate the fusion of endosomes to their target lysosomes as well as other exocytosis events during phagocytosis and neuritogenesis. VAMP7 interacts with the VPS9 ankyrin repeat protein VARP, a protein that localizes to early endosomes and thought to regulate endosome dynamics. Together with CD82, VAMP7 can modulate the signaling of EGFR by regulating its endocytosis from the plasma membrane.

Description: Voltage-dependent anion-selective channel protein 1 (also known as VDAC, VDAC1 or outer mitochondrial membrane protein porin 1) is the the outer mitochondrial membrane receptor for hexokinase and BCL2L1. VDAC forms a channel through the mitochondrial membrane and is involved in small molecule diffusion, cell volume regulation and apoptosis. VDAC may participate in the formation of the permeability transition pore complex (PTPC), which is responsible for the release of mitochondrial products that triggers apoptosis. Anti-VDAC1 is ideal for research in Cell Biology and Apoptosis.
