Streptomycin sulphate
Streptomycin sulfate is the first aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from the soil microbe Streptomyces griseus by Waksman and Schatz
- Loss on drying: max. 5.0%
Streptomycin sulfate binds to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, and then it inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis. Streptomycin-resistant bacterial strains appeared soon after its introduction.
Streptomycin sulfate has activity against aerobic Gram-negative bacteria that are not sensitive to the penicillins.
