Adenylate cyclase type 7 is a membrane-bound adenylate cyclase that catalyses the formation of cyclic AMP from ATP and is inhibitable by calcium. The product of this gene is a member of the adenylyl cyclase class-4/guanylyl cyclase enzyme family that is characterized by the presence of twelve membrane-spanning domains in its sequences. The deduced protein contains 12 membrane-spanning domains, a characteristic of the adenylyl cyclase enzyme family. RNase protection assays indicated that ADCY7 is the major form of adenylyl cyclase in human platelets. Northern blot analysis detected a 6.7-kb transcript that was abundant in liver. Of brain areas studied, the transcript was most abundant in the caudate and cerebellum and present at a slightly lower level in hippocampus.
