EMILIN (elastin microfibril interface located protein) is an extracellular matrix glycoprotein abundantly expressed in elastin-rich tissues such as blood vessels, skin, heart, and lung., The extracellular matrix protein EMILIN1 (elastin microfibril interface located protein 1) is implicated in maintaining blood pressure homeostasis via the N-terminal elastin microfibril interface domain and in trophoblast invasion of the uterine wall via the globular C1q (gC1q) domain. Elastin microfibril interface-located proteins (EMILINs) constitute a family of extracellular matrix (ECM) glycoproteins characterized by the presence of an EMI domain at the N terminus and a gC1q domain at the C terminus.
