G418 is an aminoglycoside antibiotic similar in structure to gentamycin B1 isolated from Micromonospora rhodorangea.
Used for the selection and maintenance of eukaryotic cells expressing the neo gene. This antibiotic blocks polypeptide synthesis by inhibiting the elongation step in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
