Amaze Your Students with this Reversible Reaction.
- Show how increasing the oxygen in the bottle, changes the color of the solution
- Takes about 20 minutes to complete
Compounds that change color as a result of a change in their pH or oxidation state are called indicators. With this activity, you can illustrate this principle to your students by mixing a solution to introduce oxygen from the air into the solution. When you stop mixing, the reaction will reverse itself and become clear again. You will get instructions, the indicator solution, and two chemicals preweighed for a one liter demonstration. This demonstration can be completed in 20 minutes.
