The congo eel (Amphiuma sp.) is not an eel at all but a large aquatic salamander. It is the only surviving genus within the family Amphiumidae and is often mistaken for an eel or snake because of its long, slim body type and its small vestigial legs that are not readily obvious. Because of its morphological differences from other salamanders, it makes a great specimen for amphibian comparative anatomy studies. Size: 24" or longer.
