Hygromycin B, produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus, is used as a selection agent and inhibits protein synthesis in cells not carrying hygromycin phosphotransferase (HPH)
Antibiotic; For selection/maintenance of prokaryotic, eukaryotic cells.
Application: Recommended for use as a selection agent at 100-800 μg/mL. Biochem/physiol Actions: Mode of Action: Blocks polypeptide synthesis and inhibits elongation. For use in the selection and maintenance of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Preparation Note: Purified by ion exchange chromatography.
HPH inactivates hygromycin B and restores protein synthesis.
